This WAYO features a shirogami 1 (white paper 1) carbon steel core, which is surrounded by layers of copper and high-layer Damascus steel. A chevron pattern has been forged into the blade, further enhanced by a pronounced hollow grind (agro-S). The knife includes a matching copper bolster cap fitted to a highly figured Padauk handle—a pinkish hardwood known for its straight grain—which beautifully complements the copper tones of the blade. The balance point is just behind the maker's mark, giving this knife a comfortable feel in the pinch grip.
N.B. Knives featuring an 'S grind' are often considered superior for food release, which may indeed be the case. However, the primary advantage of this style of knife geometry lies in the cutting experience. This is primarily due to the reduced surface area of the blade in contact with the food when slicing through your purple Hasselback Sweet Potatoe or your Tokyo Cross Turnips.
